Moments after the Central government introduced surge pricing on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, the opposition has slammed the move, with the Left saying it is ‘anti passengers’, as reported by Times Now. Meanwhile, the Congress party told Times Now that surge pricing is a ‘preposterous move by the government’.
Speaking on the flexi fare system, member of Traffic Railway Board Mohd Jamshed said, “Flexi fare system applicable from Sep 9, its like air fares. Dynamic.”

The fares for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto are set to go up as the government has decided to introduce surge pricing from September 9. According to the railway ministry release, the fares will increase by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold.
“The base fares will increase by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold subject to a prescribed ceiling limit. There will be no change in the existing fare for 1AC and EC class of travel,” a railway ministry release said.
In the tables given below ‘X’ stands for the present base fares.
