JAT ORGANISATIONS Monday once again reiterated their demands for reservation and withdrawal of criminal cases registered against members of their community for the violence that rocked the state between February 17 and 22.

In memorandums, submitted to all deputy commissioners at district headquarters across the state, the organisations have also given the government a 72-hour ultimatum to fulfil their demands.

“If the government fails to accept our demands, the agitation will resume and government will be responsible for the consequences,” said the memorandum submitted by Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (JASS) to Rohtak deputy commissioner.

Security has been beefed up at all deputy commissioners’ offices across the state.

“We have been protesting since 2005-06, but no untoward incident took place till this year. Jats had been holding peaceful protests in 13 districts, including in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Haryana is the only state where the agitation was maligned because of the violence as part of a well-hatched conspiracy,” read the memorandums addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“It is extremely sad that the state government announced to accept Jats’ demands only after 18 Jats lost their lives. Three Jats had lost their lives in previous agitations,” said Yashpal Malik, president of the Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti. Jats also demanded that certain ruling party leaders should refrain from commenting against their community.

They demanded that Khattar government should promulgate an ordinance for Jats to be included in the OBC list.
