A 25-year-old physical education teacher of a private school in Bengaluru has been arrested by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old school girl in school premises.

The victim, a student in a private English medium school near Parapanna Agrahara in south east Bengaluru, was allegedly sexually assaulted by her teacher on the school campus on Monday. The teacher has been identified as Romeo, 25, a resident of Eijipur and native of Manipur.

The incident came to light after the girl returned home and complained to her parents about pain in her private parts. The parents rushed the child to the St John’s Hospital and later filed a complaint with the Parapana Agrahara police station. The police recorded the girl’s statement and registered a case of rape and also slapped a few sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences and arrested the teacher.

The police said Romeo had been working in the school for four years. Parents of students gathered at the school and staged a protest for action against the school management on Wednesday. The parents alleged that the school declared four days of holidays after the incident came to light.
