Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today raised questions on the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the heinous lynching of 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq by an enraged mob over rumours that his family stored and consumed beef.

On Twitter, shortly after PM Modi wished former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu a speedy recovery, Abdullah spoke out.

“What does it say about our Hon PM that Sidhu’s DVT (blood clot) got more attention from him that #Ikhlaq’s cold blooded murder did!!!!,” he tweeted.

Sidhu was hospitalised on Tuesday night for treatment for acute deep vein thrombosis.

Over the last few days, concerns have risen from across political quarters over the Prime Minister’s silence on the lynching that took place in Bisara village in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. While Akhlaq was dragged out of his house by the mob in front of his family and then later beaten to death, his son was grievously injured in the incident. Several men have been arrested in the aftermath of the incident.
