    Three cough syrups flagged for dangerously high DEG levels

    Amid the continuing crackdown on toxic cough syrups in Madhya Pradesh, at least three have been found to have higher than permissible limits of diethylene glycol (DEG). Testing by state drug regulators in MP revealed that the three cough syrups, Respifresh, Relife syrup and Coldrif syrup, contained higher than permissible amounts of DEG, a contaminant that can lead to acute kidney injury and failure. The cough syrups were tested in the aftermath of the deaths of at least 14 children in Madhya Pradesh. Read more

    IPS officer Y Puran Kumar's suicide note alleges caste bias

    A purported suicide note of Haryana-cadre IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was found dead with a gunshot wound, has surfaced, in which the IPS officer alleges caste discrimination. In the eight-page note, Kumar has named nine serving IPS officers of the Haryana Police, a retired IPS officer, and three retired IAS officers, accusing them of blatant caste-based discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation and atrocities. The 2001-batch IPS officer, who was posted as Inspector General, Police Training Centre, Sunaria-Rohtak, was found dead in his residence on Tuesday. Read more

    Tejashwi Yadav promises a government job for each family

    As the campaign for the Assembly elections in Bihar heats up, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has promised a government job for a member in each family if the party is voted to power. Tejashwi, the son of former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, said he will bring a new law to this effect within 20 days of coming to power. The RJD was the single-largest party in the 2020 Bihar elections, winning 110 seats. Bihar will vote in two phases, on the 6th and 11th of November, to elect its new assembly. The results will be announced on November 14. Read more

    Wife pours boiling oil, chilli powder on husband while he was asleep

    In a shocking incident, a woman was arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly pouring hot oil and chilli powder on her husband, while he was asleep. The incident happened last week in South Delhi’s Madangir. The woman, identified as Sadhna, poured burning oil and chilli powder on her husband Dinesh Kumar, and even threatened to inflict more pain on him if he cried. According to the police, the couple had been married for eight years, but had a troubled relationship. Read more

    US federal court to weigh Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago

    US District Judge April Perry will hear arguments over a request to block the deployment of Illinois and Texas Guard members in Chicago. Chicago and Illinois have filed a lawsuit to stop the deployments, calling them unnecessary and illegal.
