A late-night shootout broke out between terrorists and SOG personnel in a remote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Details on the encounter are awaited.

The shootout occurred in the Beeranthub area of Kandi.

Jammu Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti said a search operation by the joint security forces is underway in the region to flush out the terrorists.

“Exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the SOG (Special Operations Group) team in Beeranthub area under the Kandi Police Station jurisdiction,” Tuti was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

There is no news of any casualty yet.

India has intensified anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam attack in April. Rajouri is one key area where terrorists have struck repeatedly. One of the biggest attacks in the area was over two days when back to back terror hits claimed at least seven lives, including that of a child.
