Eid 2025 Bank Holiday: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in its latest notification, has instructed member banks in India to remain open on Monday, March 31, 2025, for special clearing operations and to expedite the accounting of all transactions by the government for the financial year 2024-25.
Consequently, the scheduled holiday of Eid al-Fitr on March 31 stands cancelled, with March 31, being the last year of the financial year. Banks in India will be open today, as the country follows April 1-March 31 as its financial year.
Banks were expected to be closed today and expected to have extended holidays this week, beginning with Shab-I-Qadr on Thursday, March 27, and continuing through Friday Jumat prayers on March 28.
Furthermore, there was a weekly off on Sunday, i.e., March 30, and Ramzan Eid on March 31; however, Saturday was operational, as it was the fifth Saturday of the month. According to regulations, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as all Sundays.
The bank holidays in India form part of the annual holiday calendar established under the Negotiable Instruments Act, as set forth by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which is responsible for overseeing the issuance of cheques and promissory notes.
