Sikh bodies including Dal Khalsa,SAD (Panch Pardani) and Damdami Taksal today sought the removal of Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Guru Granth Sahib World University.
A four-member delegation submitted a protest letter addressed to SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, who is also the Chancellor of the University.
The delegation members Kanwar Pal Singh,Harpal Singh Cheema,Mohkam Singh and SGPC member Kulbir Singh Barapind handed a copy of the letter to Makkar’s OSD Manjit Singh.
Describing Ahluwalia as a controversial personality, who was charged for molesting the student girl during his stint as V-C,Punjab University, the Sikh leaders said he was not fit to occupy the post because of his tainted past.
“It is inevitable that deep religious sanctity is associated with a university as the name of the University is in the name of Guru Granth Sahib,” the letter said.
The letter urged the Chancellor to appoint a morally upright personality with clean image as the V-C so that young students and the community can look up to him/her as a role model.
