Four days after a 22-year-old Dalit man was beaten up for trying to enter a temple, five persons were arrested on Friday in connection with the incident under the More police station area of Uttarkashi.

Though it was alleged that the Dalit man, Ayush Kumar, was assaulted by a group of five people and singed with burning sticks when he entered the temple, senior police officers said they do not have any evidence or statement to suggest the same. However, prima facie, minor injuries, including two burn marks, have been found on the victim’s body.

Circle Officer (Operation) Prashant Kumar said: “Prima facie the hospital found minor injuries all over his body. We are yet to record the victim’s statement.”
