CRPF soldier opens fire at camp in Manipur, kills 2 colleagues before taking own life

A CRPF jawan allegedly shot and killed two of his colleagues and injured eight others before taking his own life at a camp in Manipur on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 8pm at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Lamphel, located in Imphal West district.

Havildar Sanjay Kumar, the accused, opened fire with his service weapon, fatally shooting a constable and a sub-inspector on the spot. He then turned the gun on himself and was later declared dead, sources reported.

Kumar was part of the CRPF’s 120th battalion.

Eight personnel sustained injuries in the firing and were immediately transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, though no official statement has been released by the CRPF as of now.
