The judicial magistrate of a Valsad court and his friend were arrested Friday following a sexual harassment complaint filed by a stenographer working in the same court.

Police sources said that the 21-year-old tribal woman has, in her complaint, accused judicial magistrate Dilip Chaudhary of harassing her for the past eight months. The complainant states that Chaudhary — who is married and has two children — had proposed to her, but she rejected him. The victim has been working on contract at Valsad district labour court for the past one-and-a-half-years.

The complaint states the woman has alleged that for the last eight months, Chaudhary would call her to his chamber and touch her inappropriately. He did so despite her objections.

On Thursday, when she was heading home in a bus, Chaudhary and two friends followed her in his car. He reportedly created a scene when the girl’s father tried to talk to him. It was then that the girl filed the complaint.
