Enraged after a woman objected to the bursting of firecrackers, two young men in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district chased her into her home and allegedly stabbed her 60-year-old father-in-law to death on Monday night, police said.

The incident took place at around 10.30 pm in Bhilai city. The deceased was identified as Ganesh Bairagi.

According to police, Ganesh’s daughter-in-law objected to the loud sounds of the crackers that brothers Sanjay and Shubham Bairagi were bursting in the Bairagi Mohalla area of Bhilai. This led to a heated argument, during which the woman fled to her house, but was followed by the two men, who were in their early 20s.

In the house, the men were confronted by Ganesh, who was then attacked with a sharp weapon and stabbed in the chest and abdomen in the presence of several members of his family, including his wife and daughter.

“The duo barged into their house and attacked Ganesh Bairagi, 60, with a cutter. One of the stab injuries ruptured his heart,” City Superintendent of Police (Chhavni) Hemprakash Nayak told The Indian Express.

He was rushed to Supela hospital, but was declared dead before admission. A case of murder has been registered against the brothers.

An officer from Chhavni police station said one of the brothers, Sanjay, had a previous case of assault against him.
