Two minors were detained on August 28 in the South Tripura district for sexually assaulting a minor girl and allegedly pouring hot water on her private parts. A hunt is on to arrest two others accused in the case.
A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said, “The police have detained both the minors and they are currently at a juvenile home. The rape-survivor was admitted to a local hospital after the incident.”
The police said, as per the complaint, the girl was in a relationship with one of the accused minors. The two accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl and when she protested, one of the accused poured hot water on her private parts. Later, she was dropped at her home by the assaulters.
A delegation of the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights led by chairperson Jayanti Debbarma on Saturday paid a visit to the girl and her family.
“It is an unfortunate incident. We have spoken with the police. They said apart from the minors, a hunt is on to look for two adults who were also a part of the crime. Such incidents have to be stopped or else the future of our children will be at risk. We want strict punishment for everyone accused in the incident,” she said.
The police said a case has been lodged under Sections 87 (kidnapping), 65 (rape of minor), 124 (1) (causing permanent or partial damage or deformity by use of acid or corrosive substance), 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on August 28.
