Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh, Maamannan is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies, while AR Rahman has composed the songs for the flick. This is the first time that Rahman and Selvaraj have joined hands. The film is expected to hit theatres in June this year, though the crew has not announced the official date yet.
The makers recently unveiled two songs from the film. While the first song, “Raasa Kannu”, was sung by Vadivelu, Rahman himself has sung the second track, “Jigu Jigu Rail”. Both video songs are currently trending on YouTube with over 6.2 million and 3.2 million views, respectively.
Maamannan is one of the most anticipated films of the year since it features Vadivelu, fondly referred to as Vaigai Puyal, in a never-seen-before role, while the flick also marks the return of Selvaraj whose last film Karnan had sent shock waves across the Tamil industry.
Maamannan will be Udhayanidhi Stalin’s last film as an actor. Soon after being sworn in as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development in the Tamil Nadu government led by his father and Chief Minister MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi had announced his decision to retire from acting to focus on politics.
