Not long ago, a rift between filmmaker-producer Karan Johar and actor Kartik Aaryan made headlines after their maiden collaboration, Dostana 2, was shelved. However, over time, as Kartik has risen to immense popularity and established himself as a bankable star, relations between the two have improved. They have recently hosted award functions together, and Kartik is gearing up for the release of his next film, which is backed by none other than Karan.
Amid all this, in a recent conversation with Curly Tales, Karan called Kartik “a marketing genius.” He said: “Kartik Aaryan is a marketing genius. He has got a great marketing mind. He’s built his own brand so smartly, so superbly, so strategically.” In the same conversation, when asked about which other business-related professions might suit stars of showbiz, Karan spoke attributed the title of finance guru to SRK and said: “Shah Rukh Khan, he has got great intellect with money.”
Spilling his thoughts on crisis management, he added: “Somebody calm and peaceful, surely Aamir Khan.” He also praised Ranveer Singh’s persuasive abilities, saying he would like to award him the “Salesperson of the Year” because: “He is great at selling everything, and he does it with such charm and amazing energy that you can’t help but buy it.”
When asked who he thought was most likely to build a unicorn, Karan turned to his favourite actress, Alia Bhatt, and remarked, “She has got a sharp business sense. She’s already done it with Ed-a-Mamma, and she can do so much more, and she will do so much more.” Of course, when mentioning Alia, he also spoke about Deepika Padukone, who is often pitted against Alia in social media discussions. He said: “Deepika has also done it. Alia and Deepika are two minds I know that are going beyond their own craft.”
Karan Johar has recently produced Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, India’s official entry to the Oscars. He also produced Sunny Sunskari Ki Tusli Kumari, co-starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, which struggled considerably at the box office despite the supposed star power.
