While Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor, was set to make her acting debut with Karan Johar-produced Bedhadak, little has progressed with that project since its announcement. But in the mean time, another big movie has fallen into her lap. On July 15, it was revealed that Shanaya will be joining the cast of superstar Mohanlal’s pan-India film Vrushabha, co-produced by Karan. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Karan acknowledged that Shanaya’s journey might be perceived as privileged due to her lineage, but he also mentioned how determined she has always been as a person. Shanaya is managed by the Dharma Cornerstone Agency, co-owned by Karan.
In a long Instagram post, Karan announced Shanaya’s next project and emphasised her dedication to her craft. He wrote, “Some journeys are perceived as privileged some are also given the tag of lineage benefit … and all of that is true but in you Shanaya @shanayakapoor02 I have only seen a girl who dreamt of nothing but being a pure artist and facing the camera only when you had put in all that immense hard work and so much passion…. This is such a brilliant opportunity for you … so much to learn from the legendary @mohanlal sir.. who I admire and respect so much …#VRUSHABHA is a pan-Indian spectacle that will wow the world with its narrative and breathtaking visuals.”
Karan also expressed his gratitude to Ekta Kapoor, who is also producing the film, as well as the entire team of Vrushabha for giving Shanaya this opportunity. “As a family to you I am ever so grateful to the entire team for giving us this opportunity … thank you to the immensely talented #roshanmeka… to Connekkt media AVS studios and to my darling and the best @ektarkapoor… we are humbled and grateful to all of you…. You go shine on girl… focus on the end goal and never be distracted by obstacles on your course! Your perseverance will guide you…. And you and I both know what exciting news is yet to come Love you … Karan,” he added.
Earlier, Shanaya had shared her excitement about her debut film Bedhadak, describing it as a solid story about three youngsters. Talking to Zoom TV, she said, “I am very excited. It’s not a typical launch as perhaps people would expect. It’s a solid story about 3 youngsters, and the character is quite challenging. I am preparing for it. I am grateful for the opportunity and I am working very hard to prove that I deserve it.”
Shanaya is not the only star-kid venturing into Bollywood. Suhana Khan (Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter), Khushi Kapoor (daughter of Sridevi), and Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson) are also making their debut in Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film, The Archies. The film’s release date is yet to be announced, but its trailer premiered at Netflix’s global event, Tudum.
