Celebrities remain silent on Gauahar Khan ‘slapping’ incident

Only a handful of celebrities including Farhan Akhtar, Amrita Arora and Madhur Bhandarkar came out in support of the model.

Former ‘Bigg Boss’ housemate and anchor of ‘India’s Raw Dance’, Gauahar Khan was slapped on the sets of the reality show on Sunday (November 30), in between takes at Film City.

A member of the audience, identified as Mohammed Akil Mallick (24), slapped and touched her inappropriately during the break of the show, attacking her for wearing a short dress.

What’s even more shocking than the incident is the lack of support from industry members who otherwise never refrain from expressing their views and opinions on social media. However, this time, only handful of celebrities including Farhan Akhtar, Amrita Arora and Madhur Bhandarkar came out in support of the model.

However, actor Arjun Kapoor, who was present on the sets of the show, to promote his upcoming film, ‘Tevar’, did tweet his disappointment at what happened.

“It is the most disgusting thing I have ever been a witness to and I am appalled that some Indian men have a thought process that is so lowly. I think what that man deserves is what he will get hopefully. The law will put him in his place,” Arjun told DNA.

Is the lack of support from the film Twitterati because Gauahar Khan is a small star? More than 24 hours since, the incident made headlines, there have been no hashtags either. And most of the celebrities who ‘take a stand’ on moral issues are mumb too.

Well, we hope our celebrities see the gravity of the situation and reach out to the starlet, sooner than later.

Gauahar Khan slapgate case: Varun, Huma extend support

Actors Varun Dhawan and Huma Qureshi have condemned the slapgate incident that happened with model-actress Gauahar Khan. In their opinion, the man, who slapped her, should be punished.

Varun said, “It’s terrible. No one will support something like that. If I was there I would have definitely picked up the hammer against that guy and it’s a very cowardly act and that man should be punished.”

Huma termed it “a serious offence”.

“I think it’s a very serious issue, it’s about safety of women and how we look at them. Anybody who disrespects them or promotes any kind of violence against women should be punished. As a society we should condemn it,” Huma said.
