Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and opposition YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conveyed Teachers' Day greetings to the teaching fraternity, on Friday. The governor conveyed his wishes, describing Teachers' Day as a celebration of the birth anniversary of Radhakrishnan, who stood for knowledge and ethical values.

"Teachers are the architects of society, and their contribution is vital to nation-building. I extend my heartfelt greetings to the teaching community," Nazeer said in a press release from the Raj Bhavan.

Naidu paid tributes to philosopher, teacher, former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as Teachers' Day nationwide. "My greetings to all teachers on this special occasion. By spreading knowledge and values, you are shaping tomorrow's leaders with dedication and commitment," said Naidu in a post on X.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik and others on Friday paid tribute to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on the occasion of his birth anniversary, also observed as Teachers' Day.

Kambhampati in a post on X said: "On the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, I pay respectful tributes to the great philosopher, teacher & statesman. His life and ideals continue to guide us as we celebrate #teachersday." The CM expressed hope that teachers will continue their relentless efforts to shape a bright future for children.

Majhi, in his social media post, said: "On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India's first vice president, and the sacred Guru purnima, heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all.

"Providing quality education to students along with the responsibility of developing their inherent talents rests with the teachers, and therefore, they are honoured as 'Gurus'. Amitabh Bachchan The 'Angry Young Man' of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, played the role of a teacher in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie 'Black'. In the film, Amitabh plays an unconventional teacher to deaf and blind Rani Mukerji as she struggles to read and write. The film is about the relationship between a blind and deaf girl and her teacher, who helps her break the barriers of her disabilities. The film recieved positive response from the critics.

Boman Irani played the iconic role of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhe aka Virus in the superhit film '3 Idiots'. Throughout the major duration of the film, Boman Irani's character has been portrayed as a ruthless professor who only strives for excellence in students, ignoring their interests and creativity until Aamir Khan, a bright and innovative student, arrives at his college.

The film beautifully explores a relationship between a rigid professor and an innovative student. Teachers' Day commemorates the birth anniversary of scholar and Bharat Ratna recipient Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on this day in 1888. He was the first Vice President of independent India (1952-1962). He was also the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid tribute to former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, and said the day is an occasion to honour people who instill the values of good education and propriety in young children.

'Remembering former President of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan ji on his jayanti, commemorated as #teachersday,' Sarma said in a post on X.

'Across India, we mark this day to honour the people who instill the values of good education and propriety in young children and mould them to become better humans,' he said.

The chief minister also paid homage to Assam's pioneering educationist Indira Miri on the occasion of her death anniversary.

'Remembering Indira Miri, a Padmashri awardee, a visionary educationist & social worker who dedicated her life to empowering Assam's tribal communities and shaping future through education, on her punyatithi,' Sarma said.

'Her legacy of service continues to inspire us all,' he added

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday paid tribute to former president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, and extended greetings to people on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

In a post on X, Adityanath said, "Humble tribute to former President, great educationist and Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, and hearty greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on 'Teachers' Day'." He added that Radhakrishnan's "incomparable contribution in establishing Indian culture and Vedanta philosophy on the global stage and in building a modern, educated India is a guiding force for all of us." In another post, the chief minister also extended greetings on Onam, describing it as a festival symbolising prosperity, harmony and cultural joy.

"Hearty greetings and best wishes to all the farmer brothers and sisters and people of the state on this sacred festival of Onam," Adityanath wrote, adding that he prayed the festival brings happiness and prosperity to everyone's lives.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday extended his wishes to all teachers and mentors on the occasion of Teacher's Day, saying they are the guiding lighthouse of life. He said his teacher and guide has been his father and former chief minister Shibu Soren.

"Teachers are the guiding lighthouse of life. My teacher, my guide, is the late Baba Dishom Guruji. His life, filled with love, struggle, sensitivity, and impartiality, has always been a source of inspiration for me. Today, Baba is no longer with us in body, but his teachings, thoughts, and ideals will always continue to provide strength," Soren posted on X, paying respect to all mentors and teachers.

Droupadi Murmu, will confer the National Awards to Teachers today at 11 am at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Apart from India’s observance, World Teacher’s Day is celebrated globally on October 5. It was established by UNESCO in 1994 to mark the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, recognising their rights and responsibilities. The global day is dedicated to highlighting teachers’ role in education systems worldwide.

Born in 1888, Dr. Radhakrishnan was a renowned scholar of philosophy who later became the first Vice President (1952–1962) and second President of India (1962–1967). He believed that teachers should be the best minds in the country and stressed the importance of education in national development. His contributions as a teacher, academic, and leader form the reason his birthday is commemorated as Teacher’s Day in India.

Teacher’s Day is meant to acknowledge the contribution of teachers in imparting knowledge and building values in students. It provides an opportunity for students to express gratitude to their teachers. The tradition began in 1962, when the Government of India declared Dr Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary as Teachers’ Day, following his request that his birthday be observed not as a personal celebration, but as a day dedicated to teachers.
