The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have announced the opening of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for their Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme, commencing in July 2026.

The collaborative programme offers candidates the opportunity to undertake research under the supervision of academics from both institutions while experiencing the academic environments of India and Australia.

PhD candidates will spend one year at UQ’s Brisbane campus and three years at IIT Delhi, gaining international research exposure, as mentioned in the press release. They also support students with fellowships, research travel grants, and relocation. The students will have access to both institutions’ academic facilities and resources.

Graduates will be awarded a joint PhD degree from UQ and IIT Delhi upon successful completion. Applications are invited from candidates across diverse disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

EoIs can be submitted online until 7 pm (IST) on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, via the official website: uqiitd.org/study. For prospective students, online information sessions will also be organised on different days.

The first such session will be held on November 11, 2025. Students will need to register at shorturl.at/QQoIe.

The second session will be conducted on December 10, 2025. Interested students will need to register at this link, shorturl.at/vjVp1.  These sessions will help students to get more information about the programme structure, eligibility, and application process.

Last year, all the UQ–IITD PhD applicants were offered a scholarship for the duration of their candidature for up to a maximum of 4 years (based on a full-time study load). The UQ-IITD Research Academy has also joined hands with its industry partner, The Weir Group, to support research in slurry transportation through a new PhD project.

More information on the eligibility, application process, scholarship, and submission of the EoI is available on the official website: uqiitd.org.
