Ludhiana district has the highest number of meritorious students with 91 students making it to the merit list of 324 students who secured 97% or more. Tarn Taran has only one student in the merit list.

Kalohia added that 10,199 students failed while 35,615 students have re-appear, and results of 19 students were withheld. He added that this year, the pass percentage of girls was 90.63% while that of boys was 81.30%. Last year, the pass percentage of boys was 52.31% while that of girls was 69.13%.
This year total 3,17,323 students appeared in the exam and 2,98,395 passed, with 18,928 students failing to clear it. Last year, around 45000 students had failed in the subject.
After English, Mathematics was the subject that saw most failures. In Mathematics, 3,17,337 students appeared in the exam and 2,99,041 passed successfully, with 18,296 students failing the exam. However, the result is better than last year when more than 60,000 students had failed in the Maths exam. The board also gave 3 credit marks to the students this year.
Social Sciences is another subject which saw an improvement this year. This time, 6,399 students failed in the examination as compared to more than 63,000 students failing last year. This time total 3,02,611 students had appeared in the exams and 2,96,212 passed. The board also gave sic ‘credit’ marks to the students due to some discrepancies in the Social Sciences question paper.
In Hindi, total 3,04,813 students appeared, and 2,93,977 managed to pass the exam with a pass percentage of 96.44 per cent. In Punjabi, this year 9,473 students failed out of 3,17,280 students who appeared in the exam. Last year, more than 27,000 students had failed in the subject.
While six compulsory subjects — English, Hindi, Punjabi, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics — showed a pass percentage above 90 percent, English stood at 91.09 per cent. Last year, figure for English was around 76 per cent. 28,256 students failed in English subject as compared to 89000 students last year. This year, total 3,17,371 students had appeared for English examination.
Tamanna’s father runs a grocery shop in her native village Rurki Pukhta and mother is an Anganwadi worker. Tamanna is the only child of her parents.
The district topper told Chandigarh Newsline that she wanted to be an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer and in her next class she would pursue non-medical subjects.
As many as 18,006 students appeared in the board examinations of which 15,473 passed. Last year, 8917 students had appeared in the matriculation examination and 5969 of them passed.
This year as many as seven students of the district managed to make it to the merit list of 324 students who secured 97 per cent or more marks. Last year not a single students was on the list.
Tamanna secured 639 marks out of total 650. The second position was shared by Harpreet Kaur, Simran and Karan. The students secured 636 marks (97.85 per cent). The third position was shared by Karamjeet Singh of Baba Zorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh Public High School Khijrabaad and Amandeep Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School in Bakarpur village. Both secured 97.54 per cent marks.
The students from Government Model Senior Secondary School in Kharar secured the first two positions in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) class 10 results which came out on Wednesday.
Tamanna bagged the first position in the district by securing 98.31 per cent marks. The second position was also shared by three students of the same school who secured 97.85 per cent marks. Mohali district recorded 86.34 pass percentage, a significant improvement compared to the previous years— 66.94 per cent in 2018 and 44.73 per cent in 2017.

The Punjab Board will soon announce re-evaluation of the Class 10 answer sheets dates and procedure. The re-evaluation of the Class 12 answer sheets have already started by the board. The last date to submit the applications is by May 11 for a fee of Rs 500 per subject

The third rank is jointly secured by four students, namely Abhigyan Kumar, Khushpreet Kaur, Jia Nanda and Anisha Chopra with 99.08 per cent and 644 out of 650 marks.
In the sports category, Nandini Mahajan from Nangal Kotli Mandi, a village near Gurdaspur, Ritika from Ludhiana and Neeraj from Ludhiana secured the complete 650 marks out of 650.
Almost one-third of the candidates who appeared in the open category have cleared the exam, bringing the pass percentage to 32.73%.
This year, 3.17 lakh candidates appered for the exam, out of which 2.71 cleared the exam.
For the year 2019, the pass percentage is 85.56%. For 2018, it was 57.50% and the pass percentage for the year 2017 stood at 72.25%.
Pass percentage for government schools is 88.21 and the pass percentage for aided schools is 70.43
Girls performed better than boys as they got a pass percentage of 90.63 and only 81.3 per cent boys could clear the Punjab Board class 10 examination this year. Out of 14.48 lakh girls who appeared for the exam, 13.13 lakh passed. Out of 17.25 lakh boys who appeared for class 10 exam, 14.02 lakh passed.

In terms of region, students belonging to the rural area performed bettern than those in the urban. The urban region had a pass percentage of 83.38 per cent and rural had a pass percentage of 86.7 per cent. In rural areas 1.06 lakh appeared for PSEB class 10 exam and 89194 students passed the exam. While from rural area, 21.04 lakh appeared for the exam against with 1.82 lakh cleared the same.

In 2017, a total of 3,42,330 appeared out of which 2,47,340 passed the exam with a pass percentage of 72.25 per cent. In 2018 the pass percentage dropped drastically to 57.50% when only 19 lakh candidates out of 33.04 lakh who appeared for the same. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), which had announced the board results, noted that 40 per cent of the students who had appeared for the class 10 exams had failed while 18 per cent of the students, who failed in a single subject, will be appearing for compartment exams. Only 24 students from government schools, 6.33 per cent of the total number of government school students who appeared for the exams, managed to make it into the merit list of 379 students.
The results of PSEB Class 10 examination was declared Tuesday. This year, 89,000 students have flunked in English. The overall pass percentage recorded at 59.47 per cent.
The overall pass percentage in the Class 10 examinations held by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) jumped this year to 59.47, an increase of two per cent against last year’s 57.50, according to the results declared Tuesday. Gurpreet Singh of Ludhiana topped with 98 per cent marks. Jasmine Kaur of Bholath in Kapurthala district stood second with 97.85 per cent while Puneet Kaur of Fatehgarh Sahib district ranked third with 97.69 per cent.
Board officials also did not reveal whether grace marks were given to the students or not since the Marks Moderation System had already been abolished. The number of failed students and the students who would have to re-appear in the exams were also not disclosed for the first time.
Social studies has recorded second highest failures this year after English with more than 63,000 students failing in the subject. It has recorded 80.48 pass percentage and 63,942 have failed in it. Last year, social studies result was much better with 85.38 percent students passing it.
In 2017, Gurdaspur emerged on the top among all districts with 76.14 % pass percentage, Tarn Taran stood at number two with 72.31 per cent while Amritsar recorded 71.08 % pass percentage. Pathankot and Ferozpur districts recorded 64.10% and 64.33% pass percentage respectively.
But this year, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot could not garner even 50 per cent over all pass percentage. The three districts have recorded 31.60%, ( a fall of over 41 per cent), 46.73% (a fall of 30% in overall percentage) and 47.89 % (a fall of 17%) pass percentage respectively. Amritsar too recorded 50.78 per cent result while Ferozpur recorded 58.81 per cent.

Students can check their results on the official website in the evening as the Board has announced the merit list and pass percentage but have not uploaded it. PSEB will publish the results in the evening at pseb.ac.in. Candidates can check their scores by using their roll number.
Notably, in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the overall pass percentage was 81.09 per cent, 76.24 per cent, 76.77 per cent and 62.36 per cent respectively. Pass percentage in commerce group was 84.95 while in humanities it was 65.11. Pass percentage in science group was 58.79
Last year (in 2018) the pass percentage of students in Punjab Board PSEB matric or class 10 result increased from 57.50 per cent in 2017 to 59.47 per cent and the same is expected to go higher this year too. Pass percentage refers to the percentage of students who have passed the exam.
Over 6 lakh students have appeared for the exam this year. Last year, Punjab Board class 10 result was released on May 9, 2019 and the same is on time this year too. Meanwhile, Punjab Board class 12 result 2019 is also awaited and expected to be released by May 15, 2019.
