PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan: For meritorious students belonging to poor families, the Ministry of Education has announced a central sector scheme, PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan. The scholarship is for college and university students and is based on scores achieved in Class 12.
A maximum of 82,000 fresh scholarships per annum are shortlisted and provided to students for pursuing graduate and postgraduate degrees in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as medicine, and engineering, among others.
“Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class 12 of 10+2 pattern or equivalent,” read the website, adding that such students must pursue a regular course rather than from correspondence or distance mode or pursuing diploma courses.
The college or university must be recognised by concerned regulatory authorities. The candidate must not have availed any benefits of any other scholarship schemes including state-run scholarship schemes, fee waivers or any reimbursement scheme.
Students with gross parental or family income up to Rs 4.5 lakh per annum are eligible for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship. An income certificate will be required only for fresh applicants, read the website.
According to the financial year 2022-23, the rate of scholarship was Rs 12,000 per annum at the graduation level for the first three years of college and university courses and Rs 20,000 per annum at the post-graduation level.
Those students pursuing professional courses, in case, where the duration of the course is five years or they are pursuing any integrated course will get Rs 20,000 per annum in the 4th and 5th year, however, students pursuing technical courses such as BTech, BE will get PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship up to graduation level only Rs 12,000 per annum for three years and Rs 20,000 in the 4th year.
The rate of scholarship is according to the financial year 2022 and 2024. The current plan of scholarship might differ.
Students are required to have bank accounts opened with their name to avail the benefits under the scheme. The PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship will be disbursed directly into the savings bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
The applications are received online only through, scholarships.gov.in. Candidates are first verified through DigiLocker and their information is added automatically through the portal.
The guidelines for application, verification, selection and disbursement of scholarships will be as per the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). A selection list would be generated on NSP for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan.
Online applications will be verified at two levels: by the Institute, where the student is studying and then by the concerned state higher education department or any other agency or official nominated by the state as a state nodal agency (both for fresh and renewal applicants).
