Panjab University senate elections: Eight of 16 sitting members re-elected

As many as eight out of total 16 sitting members of Panjab University (PU) Senate were re-elected for a second term after the results for head of Arts colleges and Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors of affiliated Arts colleges were declared, here on Tuesday.

Out of the total 16 candidates, 13 belong to Dean Student Welfare (DSW) — Navdeep Goyal’s group, while only three seats were bagged by Keshav Malhotra’s group, which included Hardiljit Singh Gosal from Govind National College, R S Jhanji, Principal of A S College and Harpreet Dua from Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Ludhiana. The Goyal group has been leading the Senate elections, as it had won 21 seats, while the Opposition, Malhotra Group, has only bagged 11 seats.

This year, an elected couple will also be present in the PU Senate after Nisha Bhargava, Principal, MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, who is the wife of already elected member Gurdeep Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, Hoshiarpur won a seat on Tuesday.
