JEE Main 2024: Who are safe for JEE Advanced? Who can get a seat at top branch in an NIT?

However, as the number of applicants continues to rise, it is crucial to analyse the evolving dynamics of JEE Advanced selection criteria. This year, an unprecedented 12.5 lakh students participated in the session 1 exam held in January. To put this into perspective, those at the 99 to 100 percentile alone amounts to 12,000 individuals. Consequently, projections indicate that only candidates scoring above the 91st percentile are likely to secure a qualifying position.

This year, the NTA has also released the percentile of candidates appearing in various shifts between January 27 and February 1.

The JEE Main percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below (same or lower raw scores) that particular percentile in that examination. Therefore, the topper (highest score) of each shift will get the same percentile of 100. The marks obtained between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate percentiles.

For students aspiring to secure admission to top branches of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) including computer science, information technology, software engineering, and electronics, the competition intensifies further. With an estimated pool of 30,000 successful candidates across NITs, achieving a safe percentile becomes paramount. 

Based on current trends and expectations, a percentile range of 97 percentile to 98 percentile is necessary to stand a strong chance of securing admission to these coveted branches.

The implications of these statistics are profound, underscoring the need for strategic planning and meticulous preparation among aspirants. In an increasingly competitive landscape, simply meeting the qualifying criteria may not suffice for those aiming for sought-after branches and institutes.

NTA is holding JEE Main 2024 exams in two sessions this year in January and April. Candidates can appear in both sessions. The best of the candidate’s scores in JEE Main will be considered while preparing the final merit list. The JEE Main result of the first session is out and the registration for the second session is underway and will get over on March 2.

The top 2.5 lakh candidates become eligible to register for the JEE Advanced for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The application for JEE Advanced will begin on April 21, and the test is scheduled for May 26.
