UNION MINISTER of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai found himself in an awkward situation on Wednesday during a debate on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 in Rajya Sabha. While addressing concerns raised by specific MPs, Rai mistakenly called Sushmita Dev of Trinamool Congress “Sushmita Sen”, the popular actor, drawing laughter from across the Treasury and Opposition benches. The TMC MP stood up and corrected the minister, and Rai apologised for the gaffe immediately.

Meet Awaited

Eight-year-old Ananya Yadav caught the attention of the Supreme Court after a video of her running with her school bag and books during a demolition drive in UP’s Ambedkar Nagar was shared widely on social media. The local Samajwadi Party leaders, who are in touch with Ananya’s family, are trying to schedule a meeting of the girl with party president Akhilesh Yadav. With Akhilesh attending the ongoing Budget Session in Parliament, the meeting is being planned after the SP chief returns to the state from Delhi.

Graft Complaint

A senior IPS officer in the CAPFs was recently repatriated to her parent cadre by the Union Home Ministry, days after a complaint alleging her involvement in financial irregularities and hawala transactions was received by the headquarters where she was posted. The officer, who would have completed seven years on deputation on April 1 in the paramilitary force concerned, was sanctioned 60 days earned leave.
