A speeding car allegedly collided with the official vehicle of deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Himmat Jadhav at Mundhwa, leaving two policemen including the driver injured, on Friday night.

The injured cops are identified as police naik Sharad Pawar and police havaldar Vinod Nimbalkar. Pawar lodged the first information report (FIR) against the driver of the speeding car at the Mundhwa police station in the early hours of Saturday.

As stated in the FIR, Pawar works as an operator on DCP Jadhav’s official car, while Nimbalkar is its driver. Jadhav visited the Kumbharwada in Keshavnagar to check the traffic situation as citizens had crowded at the spot to buy Ganesh idols on Friday night.

After taking a review of the situation, DCP Jadhav left and was going towards Mundhwa chowk in his official vehicle. A speeding car then allegedly knocked the DCP’s vehicle from front side, near the Keshavleela apartment in Keshavnagar, around 10.30 pm.

The front side of the vehicle got damaged. Police naik Pawar, who was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, and its driver Kondhalkar, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

DCP Jadhav along with Pawar and Kondhalkar questioned the two persons sitting inside the speeding car. The driver of the car identified himself as Sameep Manmohan Singh (30), resident of Mundhwa and native of Haryana.

Soon, a team from Mundhwa police station reached the spot and detained Singh. An offence was lodged against him as per Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 125 (a), 281, 324 (4) and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Police said the accused works with a private company in Pune.
