An FIR has been registered against the wife of a police sub-inspector who died due to illness for allegedly submitting fake documents to seek a government job on compassionate grounds. Police said the accused woman has not been arrested yet and the investigation is still on.
Two Pune metro routes in Pune are getting good public response. MahaMetro further plans to set a target of finishing 33.2 kilometres of Phase-I by the end of December. A 59-year-old businessman lodged an FIR at Narpoli police station on March 10 after a robbery incident. Thane police has arrested three officers of the Pune city police for allegedly being a part of this robbery.
Meanwhile, the Pune city police have arrested two cyber experts for allegedly committing a multicrore cryptocurrency seizure scam when their help was sought by the cops for investigating a cryptocurrency fraud which was unearthed in 2018. The accused have been identified as Pankaj Prakash Ghode (38) and Ravindranath Prabhakar Patil (45). For Maharashtra state surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate, a two-minute role with Amitabh Bachchan in the recently released Hindi film ‘Jhund’ was a “marvellous learning experience” and he said that the veteran actor ensured that they rehearsed even the smallest of scenes at least three times.
‘Jhund’, based on the life of Vijay Barse, a retired sports teacher who founded an NGO called Slum Soccer, was released on March 4. In line with the decline in Covid cases in Pune, the city currently has no Covid patient on ventilator while only one patient is on oxygen support in hospital, health officials said. The daily Covid positivity rate in the city has dropped to 3.34 per cent with only 65 of the 1,944 individuals tested showing positive for the viral infection, they added.“Only 14 of the 574 active Covid patients are currently in hospital, which is just 2.43 per cent. Moreover, there is no patient on invasive or non-invasive ventilator in the city, while there is just one patient on oxygen support,” said a civic health officer. Read more
BJP MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha on Monday demanded that the Maharashtra government exempt the movie "The Kashmir Files" from entertainment tax.
Putting forth his demand in the state Assembly, Lodha said many states were making the film tax-free and it is being appreciated by the audience.
In the state Legislative Council, BJP MLC Pravin Datke raised an issue about the film through point of information and said, "'The Kashmir Files' released in various multiplexes and film theatres, but some secular forces are trying to keep it away from viewers. Despite having empty seats, some theatres are closing doors to the audience." (PTI)
IT companies in Pune’s Hinjewadi software park have started the process of asking employees to come back to work in offices as the coronavirus pandemic is showing signs of slowing down. However, the ongoing construction work of the metro line in and around Hinjewadi has put a question mark over how soon the offices will start functioning with 100 per cent occupancy, given the increased commuting time.
For the last two years, more than two lakh employees working in the various IT companies in the Hinjewadi software park have worked from home. Employees who belonged to other states went back to their homes permanently. Rising cases of Covid-19 last year had seen companies shelving their plans for an imminent return to work. Since the start of 2021, when vaccines were made available for all, the IT companies had conducted special camps to get their employees and their family members vaccinated. Before the third wave earlier this year, there were some steps taken to start offices but the third wave had put a stop to that. Read more
At least 200 tourists, who were visiting the historic Shivneri Fort located in Junnar taluka of Pune district, were stung by bees on Sunday afternoon, the state forest department officials said. At least 25 of them required medical assistance and were discharged after primary treatment at a local government hospital, added the officials.
The officials said that the incident took place between 12.30 pm and 1 pm when a large number of tourists were visiting the historic military fort located on a hill, which is birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is located around 95 km from Pune city and the premises are administered by the forest department.
An official from Pune forest department said, “Primary probe suggests swarms of bees from at least three beehives located near the main entrance of the fort were galvanised. It can happen when someone hurls something at them or because of a combination of strong artificial smells emanating from human activity. The bees stung around 200 tourists. Around 25 of suffered from multiple stings.” Read more
Four 'warkaris' were killed and 16 others injured after a truck hit their tractor-trolley on Solapur-Pune highway in Maharashtra while they were on way to Pandhapur temple town, police said on Monday.
The accident took place around 11 pm on Sunday near Kondi village, located nearly 250 km from Pune, they said. On the way, one of the truck tyres burst, following which its driver lost control over the wheels. The vehicle then hit the tractor-trolley from behind, he said.
Twenty warkaris, all hailing from Tuljapur in neighbouring Osmanabad district, were injured and taken to a hospital. Four of them, including a woman, were declared brought dead, the official said. The 16 others were undergoing treatment, he added. (PTI)
