PM Modi in city tomorrow, schools in Pune announce closure, online classes

The Pune traffic police has issued an advisory to avoid Pune University Square, Budhwar Chowk, Sangamwadi Chowk and Fergusson College road among others.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city tomorrow, some schools in the city have decided to remain shut while others have announced online classes anticipating traffic, road closures and security measures.

The Pune traffic police has issued an advisory to avoid Pune University Square, Budhwar Chowk, Sangamwadi Chowk and Fergusson College road among others. These road closures and diversions will be in place from 6 am to 3 pm in the city.

However, state education department has issued no official notification in this regard. “We have not sent out any official notice to schools to shut down tomorrow,” said Deputy Director of Education Rajendra Ahire.

Sardar Dastur School, Campand Bishop’s Co-Ed School, Kalyani Nagar are among thise who will conduct classes online instead. Shikshana Prasarak Mandali English School, Sadashiv Peth is one of the several that will be closed.

The Prime Minister will arrive in the city at around 11 am on Tuesday and will head to the Lokmanya Tilak National Award ceremony at 11.45 am. At 12:45 he will inaugurate two metro trains and some development projects.
