A 20-year-old girl pursuing her Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course from a college in the city, who had gone missing since Wednesday evening, was found dead in a water-filled abandoned quarry on Vetal Hill on Thursday morning. Based on a note addressed to her parents, found in her notebook, police suspect it to be a case of suicide. The Chatushrungi Police have identified the deceased girl as Poorva Shripad Bawdekar, a first-year student of the BAMS course at the Tilak Ayurvedic Mahavidyalaya in Rasta Peth. Sub inspector Vijay Koli of Chatushrungi Police Station, who is investigating the case, said, “Poorva was untraceable from Wednesday evening and a missing complaint has been registered at Alankar Police Station by her parents.”

On Thursday around 8 am, the Chatushrungi police got a call about a body of a girl found in the water filled open quarry on Vetal Hill. When police went to the spot, the girl was identified.

An officer from the police station said, “We have found a notebook and cell phone in her bag that she left near the quarry. In the notebook, there is a note addressed to her parents. The note says that she has failed in the exam and she could not meet their expectations. Her parents are ayurvedic doctors. We have found her bike near the building of Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) located near the hill.”

The officer added, “Based on the primary probe, this seems to be a case of suicide. But further probe and reports from the post mortem examination will confirm the cause. We are yet to find out about the exam result, the note refers to. We will also be speaking to her family and friends.”
