Pune city police are probing into a complaint against an unidentified person and the Poona Club Golf Course management by a man who was hit by a golf ball while he was going from Gunjan talkies to Yerwada jail on a motorcycle.

As per the FIR, Pranil is a resident of Kamraj Nagar in Yerwada and works as a journalist for a “Daily Aksharaj” in Pune.

He and his friend Sandip Bhatkar, who too works for a regional newspaper, were going from Gunjan talkies to Yerwada jail on a motorcycle, via the flyover near the golf course, on the evening of March 29, 2025.

Bhatkar was riding the motorcycle, while Pranil was riding pillion. Around 5.10 pm, a golf ball hit Pranil’s chest.

“We stopped, took the ball and called a senior officer at the Yerwada police station to inform him about the incident. As per the police officer’s instruction, we immediately filed a complaint application at the police station…. Then on April 1, I got a call from the police. I went to the police station and lodged an FIR against the unidentified golfer who was playing with the ball that hit me and also the management of the Poona Club Golf Course. Police conducted a spot panchnama of the crime scene on Friday. No arrests have been made yet in this case,” said Pranil.

He further said that it could have been fatal if the golf ball had hit him or anyone else on the head. “I received an injury on my chest. I took treatment at a doctor.…. This is not the first time. A similar incident was reported in 2023. Golf course management should take essential measures to prevent such incidents in future,” he said.

As per the FIR, police have booked the unidentified accused persons in this case under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) section 125 (act endangering human life or personal safety of others).
