A 17-year-old girl student died after falling off the fourth floor of an apartment near Venutai Chavan Polytechnic College in Wadgaon Dhayari on Saturday afternoon.
Police have identified the deceased girl as Snehal Anil Gaikwad, resident of Lagad Mala in Wadgaon Dhayari.
A case of accidental death has been registered at the Sinhagad road police station and the police are investigating to find out if it is a suicide and the reason behind it.
Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that Snehal was a student of second year in the polytechnic college. She came to the college as usual on Saturday morning.
Around 3 pm, she was seen falling from the fourth floor of a private building near the college.
After being informed, a police team rushed to the college and took Snehal’s body to a hospital. She, however, died while undergoing treatment.
Police suspect she jumped from the building to commit suicide. But there was no confirmation as no suicide note was found.
Police recorded the statements of eyewitnesses and are also probing the calls received on her cellphone before her death.
