Over the last one week,while the prices of some flowers have gone up owing to the festive season,a few others have come down due to excess supply. Rains have also played a spoilsport to some vegetables. As per the rates of the wholesale markets,prices of some vegetables,including capsicum,lemon and peas,have seen an increase by 10-20 per cent.
Marigold prices have come down due to excessive supply in the city markets. White marigolds and the Kolkata gonda,a smaller variety of marigolds the two major types that come into the city are now available at Rs 10-30 and 16-30 per kg respectively at the Market Yard wholesale market. However,the prices of Rose,Juhi and Mogra ,the two varieties of Jasmine and Gulchadi have gone up due to the festive season.
For the last one month,the sale has been good due to Shravan. Now with Ganesh festival nearing,the sale has become even better. At present roses are selling at Rs 3 to 8 per dozen. A bunch of 20 Dutch roses are priced Rs 40 100. Earlier,gulchadi was priced between Rs 20-40. Now it has gone up as high as Rs 70 a bunch,especially because white flowers are in great demand on Mondays during the month of Shravan. The flowering is less due to rains,so prices have moved up , said Dhananjay Bhosle,a trader in Market Yard.
The vegetables that have seen a rise in price,include peas,groundnut,green capsicum,Pawta beans,and leafy vegetables like coriander,spinach,fenugreek (methi) and mint due to interruption in supply due to the rains. The prices of potato,onion and ginger have remained steady. Lemons prices per bag have gone up by Rs 50-60.
While the prices of desi eggs have come down by Rs 40-50 per 100 eggs,the poultry eggs prices have gone up by 10-20 per cent. Chicken prices have gone up by Rs 6.
