CA killed in Swargate hit-and-run incident

A 34-YEAR-OLD chartered accountant was killed in a hit-and-run incident that took place on Tuesday morning in the underpass at Jedhe Chowk in Swargate area in which his bike was hit by an unidentified vehicle. Police have launched a search for the driver and the vehicle.

Officials from Swargate police station have identified the deceased as Sagar Suresh Mantri (34), who hailed from Ahmednagar and currently lived in Hadapsar area of Pune. Mantri was a practicing chartered accountant and worked from his office in Bhawani Peth area.

The accident took place around 11.30 am on Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Dilip Fulpagare, in-charge of Swargate police station said, “Mantri was riding his bike and was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the underpass at the Keshavrao Jedhe Chowk. The unidentified driver fled the scene with the vehicle.”

Passersby informed the police control room about the accident. Personnel from Swargate police station and other citizens took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Senior Inspector Fulpagare added, “We have registered an offence and have invoked provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act pertaining to hit-and-run accidents. Probe is on to identify the driver and the vehicle.”
