The Government Railway Police (GRP) are conducting inquiry to identify the woman whose body was found on tracks between the Dadar and Elphinstone Road railway stations on Sunday.
According to the Mumbai Central railway police, the body was discovered late on Sunday by a motorman. As he was leaving the Dadar yard, the stench near an old toilet caught his attention. On reaching the spot,he discovered the body of a woman and immediately alerted authorities, who called the railway police control room, said an officer with the Mumbai Central railway police.
A team of policemen reached the spot and the body was sent to Nair Hospital. Preliminary medical examination indicates that the deceased was in her mid 30s. She was wearing a blue saree and the level of decomposition suggests she had been dead for at least two days before she was discovered, said the officer.
Post-mortem tests suggest that the woman was strangled. There were no signs of rape or sexual assault. The police have registered a case of murder.
