A video purportedly showing a woman performing lavani dance inside the Nagpur office of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has surfaced following which the party leadership has sought explanation from its district chief on Monday.
The Opposition, including the NCP(SP), has targeted the Ajit Pawar-led party over the video.
A letter sent by NCP general secretary Shivajirao Garje to Nagpur City district president of the party Anil Ahirkar read: “Party’s image is getting maligned after the office bearers of the party were seen dancing and singing in the videos shot inside the office. As per the instructions of state president Sunil Tatkare, you are hereby to submit your reply within seven days.”
Senior party leader Praful Patel too said that the necessary action will be taken against the office bearers.
The video purportedly shows a dance programme being held inside the party office, inaugurated two months ago by Deputy CM and NCP chief Ajit Pawar, during the “Deepavali Milan” event.
A woman is purportedly seen dancing in the video in front of a crowd of men and women leaders and workers inside the office.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule of the NCP(SP) termed the video “disturbing”.
“You have snatched the party from Sharad Pawar. Innumerable people have worked hard to strengthen the party. It is unfortunate that such programmes are taking place inside the party office,” said Sule.
She added that at a time when the farmers of the state are facing problems, suffering losses, the ruling party workers and leaders are busy enjoying dance programs inside the offices. “This is shameful. Was this the reason why you snatched the party from Sharad Pawar?” she asked.
