Two fires break out: One in Navi Mumbai, another in Andheri East, no injuries in both incidents

A major fire broke out at a manufacturing unit in Navi Mumbai’s Rabale area early Friday. While no injuries were reported in the incident, the fire fighting operations continued throughout the day.

In another incident, three two-wheelers and one electrical four-wheeler were damaged after a small fire broke out in Andheri East’s Marol area on Friday morning.

In the first incident, the fire broke out at the Gel Pharmaceutical Company near the TJ SB bank in Rabale’s MIDC area at 2.49am on Friday.

According to preliminary information from officials at MIDC’s Rabale fire station, the manufacturing unit was stocked with materials such as candles and glass materials. As the blaze spread, the area got engulfed in plumes of smoke.

In a bid to douse the flames, the MIDC fire brigade dispatched all its resources to the site. Furthermore, personnel and water tankers from Navi Mumbai Fire Brigade’s Airoli and Vashi fire stations were also pressed to extinguish the fire.

Speaking to The Indian Express, an official from the disaster management said, “While our personnel managed to control the blaze, we are yet to call off the operations. During the evening, the cooling operations were still underway and the fire fighting will continue even at night.” Officials said no injuries were reported until Friday evening.

Meanwhile, a small fire broke out at a shop in Ashok Nagar along the Military Road in Andheri East’s Marol area at 8.10am on Friday.

Officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade said the fire remained confined to a shop situated on the ground floor and loft of a ground-plus-one storey structure. While officials maintained that no injuries were reported in the blaze, a portion of the structure collapsed and cracks developed along other parts of the structure.

Officials from the fire brigade said the fire spread through vehicle parts, stock of tyres, computers, office materials as well as one electrical vehicle and three two wheelers situated in an area spanning 1,000 – 1,500 sqft in the Marol area.

The fire in Andheri was extinguished by 2.24pm.
