Three Maoists were allegedly shot dead in an encounter by the Gadchiroli police in Kedmara forest area on Sunday after a tip-off, police said.
According to police, the deceased are Bitlu Madavi, commander of Perimili Dalam, Vasu of Perimili Dalam and Srikant of Aheri Dalam.
“A credible information was received that Perimili and Aheri Dalam are camping in the forest area of Kedmara between Mane Rajaram and Perimili armed outpost. Based on the information, two C 60 parties were launched from Pranhita to conduct search operations in the jungle area,” said Gadchiroli superintendent Neelotpal.
During the search operation, the search party was fired at around 7 pm, when police retaliated, police said.
Madavi is the prime accused in the murder case of student Sainath Narote who was killed on March 9 this year. Madavi was also involved in two separate incidents of arson disrupting road construction work in Visamundi and Alenga earlier this year, police said.
According to police, Vasu was recently “promoted to Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) in 2023 of Perimili LOS and Srikant as Dy. Commander of Aheri LOS”. Police have also recovered weapons and other material from the encounter site.
The officials further revealed that a reward of Rs 12 lakh was declared by the Maharashtra government on Bitlu Madavi.
