Threat call: Security increased outside Uddhav Thackeray’s Mumbai residence

Police suspect it could be a hoax call, but are looking into it.

Police have stepped up security outside the residence of Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray after receiving a threat call at the control room.

According to police, the state police headquarters in Colaba on Sunday received a (threat) call from a person who claimed to be a passenger in a Mumbai-Gujarat train. The caller told police that he heard 4-5 people from a community talking in Urdu and planning a “big sabotage” outside the residence of Thackeray, who lives with his family in Bandra (East).

The caller, who did not disclose his identity, also informed that the suspects have planned to rent a room in Mohammed Ali Road in South Mumbai.

The information was relayed to the Mumbai police control room after which police enhanced security cover outside Thackeray’s house. A hunt was launched to trace the caller but the phone was found switched off.

Police suspect it could be a hoax call, but are looking into it.
