Single-screen owners across Maharashtra called off on Wednesday an indefinite strike planned from Friday to protest, chiefly, the high entertainment tax.

“We had a meeting with Minister of State for Home Satej Patil,Minister for Cultural Affairs Sanjay Devtale and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat. They promised to resolve our issues within a month. We have decided to call off the strike for now,” said RV Vidhani,President of Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India.

The association is demanding the 45 per cent entertainment tax be scrapped as has been done in several states. It would settle for a sizeable concession. It is also demanded lifting of the restriction on selling land on which single-screens stand.
