Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: After days of intense manhunt, the Mumbai Police, late on Saturday, arrested the intruder who had attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Bandra (West).
The man, identified as Vijay Das, was picked up from Thane.
According to news agency ANI, Mumbai Police also confirmed that Das was working as a waiter at a restaurant and used multiple names, including Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammed Iliyas.
On Thursday early morning, between 2 am and 2:30 am, a man had snuck into Saif Ali Khan’s 11th-floor apartment, injured the family’s nanny, and later attacked him with a knife, stabbing him six times before escaping.
Khan, who bled profusely, was rushed to the Lilavati hospital by his family in an autorickshaw, where he underwent surgery. Currently, according to senior doctors, he is stable and out of danger.
On Friday was the first time that the Mumbai Police had detained an individual over his alleged connection with the case. He was then brought in by the police in Bandra for questioning. However, five hours later, he was let go as the police found that the man had no link with the case. Police sources said he had been picked up because he resembled the accused, who was caught on CCTV at Saif’s building and had a history of petty crime.
On Saturday, again, a 31-year-old man was detained from a train in Durg, Chhattisgarh, in connection with the attack. A senior IPS officer from the Mumbai police overseeing the investigation had told The Indian Express, “The suspect detained in Durg does not appear to be the accused, but we have sent a team (to Chhattisgarh) to verify. Mumbai police continue to put efforts into their hunt for the culprit.” In Saturday’s case, too, the man picked up from Durg had a criminal record.
