Nearly 30,000 vehicles, on an average, have been using the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) daily for the first 10 days since its inauguration, generating an average revenue of Rs 61.50 lakh per day through toll charges.
As per data provided by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which developed the project, in the first 10 days till January 23, a total of 3.09 lakh vehicles used the sea bridge generating a revenue of Rs 6.15 crore through toll.
The longest sea bridge was opened to traffic on January 12 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per MMRDA on the first day (January 13) itself, a total of 28,176 vehicles used the bridge and Rs 54.77 lakh revenue was generated while on the next day, a total of 54,977 vehicles used the bridge and Rs 1.06 crore earned through toll.
On the MTHL, Rs 250 is the toll for the entire stretch from Sewri to Chirle, Navi Mumbai. Whereas, the toll for Sewri to Shivaji Nagar (Ulwe), Navi Mumbai, is Rs 200. The return trip for passenger cars is Rs 300, daily pass Rs 500 and monthly pass Rs 10,000. The toll on the Shivaji Nagar-Gavhan stretch is Rs 50 and Rs 75 for the return trip. The Mumbai police are managing the traffic on the 10.4-km stretch from Sewri, while rest of the sea link is with the Navi Mumbai side, under the jurisdiction of Nhava Sheva police.
A speed limit of 100 kmph has been set for the MTHL, while the speed limit on the ramps leading to the sea bridge is 40 kmph.
