Man arrested in Mumbai for molesting foreign national on diplomatic mission to India

The woman took a photograph of the driver based on which the police identified him and later placed him under arrest.

THE MUMBAI Police Sunday morning arrested a driver who allegedly molested a foreign national while escorting her late on Saturday night. The 23-year-old woman, employed with a foreign armed force that is in the country as part of a diplomatic mission, was returning to her ship docked off Bombay Port Trust when the incident took place.

The woman took a photograph of the driver based on which the police identified him and later placed him under arrest.

An official said the complainant in the case had come to the country as part of a diplomatic mission. On Saturday evening, she had gone to attend a food festival in south Mumbai along with two others. Later, she went to a café with the two colleagues in south Mumbai and returned to Indira Dock of the Bombay Port Trust in a cab.

As per procedure, a driver ferries them in a tempo traveller from the gate to the ship. As the woman along with two of her colleagues reached the dock, the accused, identified as Anil Kamble, first shook hands of the two colleagues who entered his vehicle.

Later, when he shook hands with the complainant with his right hand, he touched her inappropriately with his left hand. The shocked woman pushed him away and took his photograph on her mobile phone.

After she reached the ship, she informed the Indian authorities about the incident. Following this, they all went to the Yellow Gate police station where an FIR was registered against the accused person.

The police team then managed to track him down and placed him under arrest. An officer said that they arrested him on Sunday morning following which he was produced before the court that remanded him to police custody.
