Mumbai: Deadline for Campa Cola complex residents ends today; no solution in sight

The authorities and the residents have failed to resolve the issue, even as Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had on Monday said that the government was open to any solution within the ambit of law.

“I am open to any option or solution on the Campa Cola issue within the ambit of the Constitution and the law,” Chavan had said.

He, however, added that the state government would not intervene. “In the present context there seems to be no solution within ambit of the law. I am open to discussion and deliberation on any option not in violation of the SC judgement.”

Meanwhile, noted singer Lata Mangeshkar and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray came out in support of the residents. Both Lata and Thackeray had termed the move as “unjust”.

Expressing her anger over the issue, Lata had tweeted: “I want to say only one thing to the Maharashtra government with regards the Campa Cola compound. If the homes of these residents are razed, thousands of people will be rendered homeless, that includes children and senior citizens.”

Thackeray had said that the residents must not bear the brunt when the builders and administrative officers are responsible for the issue. He had said, “I am not just talking about Campa Cola. There are several illegal buildings in Thane as well. But why should the residents bear the brunt when they have nothing to do with it. When will the builders and administrative officers responsible for such unauthorised structures be punished and sent to jail?”

“The action against the Campa Cola residents is completely unjust and should be stopped,” he added.
