A 60-year-old man was injured in a fire that engulfed nearly 15-20 hutments in Bandra East on Saturday. However, there were no casualties in the blaze that was brought under control in two hours.
According to Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials, the incident was reported at 2.36 pm in shanties of Gyaneshwar Nagar near ONGC colony in Bandra East. The fire was declared level-one at 2.57 pm.
As per the information from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the flames spread to nearly 15-20 hutments, destroying electric wiring, installation, wooden furniture and household articles.
The injured man, identified as Sherkhan Ayubkhan, sustained minor injuries to his face, officials said, adding he was taken to the Holi Family Hospital, where his condition is stable at present.
The MFB deployed four fire engines alongside four jumbo tankers to douse the fire. Senior officials from MFB, ward staffers as well as police officials also reached the spot to monitor the operations.
The fire was extinguished at 4.06pm.
