An assistant loco pilot with the Railways was found dead at his home in Kalyan East on Saturday, with relatives filing a complaint alleging that he died by suicide due to harassment by his superiors.

According to police, loco pilot Sujit Kumar Jayant, 30, was living alone at the rented accommodation. On Saturday, neighbours alerted police when foul smell emanated from the house where Jayant was found hanging. Police suspect he died a few days ago. However, no note was found.

Personnel from Kolsewadi police station registered an accidental death report.

According to the relatives, Jayant was under tremendous stress due to harassment by his superiors. It was also alleged that he was granted leave without pay for three months by his superior. The claims are being verified, police said, adding the body was handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, a protest was held by some of his colleagues and assistant motormen outside Kalyan railway station’s motorman office. “We will check the deceased person’s phone call details and WhatsApp conversations along with inquiring with his co-workers to find out if he was harassed by anyone leading to the incident,” said a police source.
