‘Kashmir youth who claimed role in Pune blasts duped 9 with job promise’

Goglu cheated nine people of Rs 8.6 lakh after promising to secure government jobs for them.

Nearly three months after he claimed responsibility for the July 10 blasts in Pune, investigations have revealed that arrested Srinagar native Bashir Ahmad Goglu named, as accomplices, three men whom he had allegedly cheated in his native state, the police said.

Police teams that travelled to Srinagar and Baramulla over the course of the past three months have found that Goglu, who claimed to have earned a living selling shawls in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, cheated nine people of Rs 8.6 lakh after promising to secure government jobs for them.

Two of the victims are Mudassair Ahmad (25) and Nazir Ahmad Shah (35), while the third man, Faiyaz Ali Ahmad (33) said that Goglu had cheated his brother-in-law of Rs. 1.5 lakh, the police said.

“Goglu had promised Faiyaz’s brother-in-law that he could secure a sweeper’s job for him at the local governmental health center. In return, he asked to be paid Rs 1.5 lakh and gave the victim a forged appointment letter, ” said inspector Arun Patil of the Azad Maidan police.

When the job was not delivered, Faiyaz wanted Goglu return the money. “Goglu drew two cheques in favour of Faiyaz from his Bank of
Maharashtra account. But since there was no cash in the account, both cheques bounced,” he said. Using the same modus operandi Goglu allegedly cheated Gajanfar Hasan Jargar (25) and his retired father of Rs 2.4 lakh, Javed Ahmad Wani (30) of Rs 1.10 lakh.

Other victims include two farmers from Baramulla, a housewife, an autorickshaw driver, a 20-year-old driver and a 29-year-old man.
