Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday unveiled a comprehensive port development plan for Maharashtra. An MoU for the port project in Dahanu, to be built by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board, was also signed.
A satellite port is being built in Dahanu and is expected to decongest the Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The two leaders also promised to take a decision on development of the Revas Port project within a month.

Gadkari said work on the Rs 6000-crore project at Vadhavan south of Dahanu, would begin by December 2015. He said, “There will be no land acquisition or relocation of any villages. The fishermen in the region will be undisturbed.”
A Rs 47-crore project to develop Kanhoji Angre jetty, 23 km from Mumbai’s Gateway of India was also given the go ahead. Gadkari said, “The state and the centre together will develop Kanhoji Angre complete with a jetty and other infrastructure. It will have a light and sound show on Chhatrapati Shivaji.”
The government has decided to develop 300 lighthouses across the country. The Kanoji Angre project would be upgraded keeping in mind foreign tourists to Mumbai.
The chief minister said, “The development of ports is integral to industrial growth and employment of people. The new port will certainly help in decongesting the Jawaharlal Nehru Port.”
