Sadanand Date is joint commissioner,Rajnish Seth to take charge as head of Force One
The top brass of the Mumbai Police saw a significant reshuffle on Thursday with the transfer of three officers of the Indian Police Service. The reshuffle,including that of 26/11 survivor Sadanand Date,comes within a week of the transfer of the citys police commissioner.
Date,who survived a 45-minute exchange of gunfire on the staircase of Cama Hospital on 26/11 along with a team of policemen,will now take charge as Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order). He was heading the elite Force One team formed immediately after the 26/11 attacks,on the lines of the National Security Guard (NSG),to counter such terror attacks.
Date sustained injuries in the encounter at Cama Hospital with Pakistani terrorists Ajmal Kasab and his accomplice Abu Ismail.
Among the other significant transfers is that of Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajnish Seth who will take now charge of Force One. As Jt CP (Law & Order),Seth was second in command after Patnaik,who was last week promoted and transferred after allegations were made regarding inept handling of the Azad Maidan rally,which led to violence in which two persons were killed in police firing.
High profile IPS officer,Additional Director General of Police Ahmed Javed has been transferred from the Establishments department to the state polices Law and Order,a post that fell vacant after Dr Satyapal Singh was appointed as the Mumbai Police Commissioner. In his earlier posting,Javed was commissioner of police in Navi Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan took the decision at a high-level meeting. Home Minister R R Patil said the meeting was held to evaluate law and order situation in Mumbai and the state.
