Citing “technical reasons”, the Bank of Baroda (BoB) Monday withdrew its notice on the e-auction of actor Sunny Deol’s bungalow in Mumbai’s Juhu after the actor reportedly failed to repay a Rs 56 crore loan.

The corrigendum (an error to be corrected) comes a day after the BoB issued the e-auction notice. “Sale Notice in respect of Mr Ajay Sing Deol alias Mr Sunny Deol Stands Withdrawn due to Technical Reasons…” it read.

As per the earlier sale notice issued Sunday, the bank was to auction Sunny Villa, located at Gandhi Gram Road, to recover Rs 55.99 crore the actor owes the lender along with interest and cost from December 26 last year minus the recovery of the amount that has been made.

The Congress raised questions Monday about the Bank of Baroda reportedly withdrawing the e-auction notice for the Juhu bungalow of Sunny Deol, asking who triggered the “technical reasons” for the withdrawal.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “Yesterday afternoon the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction since he has not paid up Rs 56 crore owed to the Bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the nation has got to know that the Bank of Baroda has withdrawn the auction notice due to ‘technical reasons’.” “Wonder who triggered these ‘technical reasons’?” he said.

The Indian Express earlier reported that the e-auction notice was issued as per the statutory 30-day notice needed under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002.

The notice to the general public by the Zonal Stressed Asset Recovery Branch of the lender said that Sunny Deol’s bungalow had been mortgaged to the bank, possession of which was taken by the authorised bank officer. It said the bungalow will be sold “as is what is” for recovery of the dues.

The properties mortgaged include all the pieces and parcels of land measuring 599.44 square metre underneath Sunny Villa. The guarantors of the loan included Ajay Singh Deol alias Sunny Deol and Vijay Singh Dharmendra Deol.
