Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday slammed Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar saying party president Sharad Pawar had become an obstacle for Ajit to take over the NCP to ally with the BJP and hence wanted him to be removed.
“He (Ajit) should realise that he has not become so big to seek resignation of Sharad Pawar. He wanted Pawar saheb out because he wanted to take over the party, ally with the BJP and merge it. Pawar saheb was an obstacle in this and that is why this group wanted Sharad Pawar out,” said opposition NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad.
Awhad said that Ajit should feel grateful for having born in Pawar family where he was treated differently and given important positions despite rebelling against his own uncle. “Nobody from this (Ajit group) wanted to join hands with the BJP till 2014 because they were in power till then. But after that they never stopped asking Sharad Pawar to join hands with the BJP only to malign the political career of Sharad Pawar for the sake of power,” he said.
Replying to Ajit Pawar’s claim that Anil Deshmukh too was ready to join the government but did not do so because he was denied the cabinet berth, former home minister Anil Deshmukh said he was offered the ministerial berth, but he chose not to quit Sharad Pawar’s side. “I had clarified that I will not quit Sharad Pawar’s side. There was no question of joining hands with the BJP which kept me in jail under fake allegations,” said Deshmukh.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule said that in a democracy everybody has a right to speak, and Ajit Pawar has exercised his right.
