Manoj Jarange Patil, a local Maratha leader from Jalna who is on a hunger strike for the past 14 days, said on Monday that the community in the state has waited for 70 years to get justice and appealed to the ruling and opposition parties to make their stand clear on the issue of reservation for Marathas.
Pressing for his demand for reservation to Marathas amid the failed talks with the state government, Jarange Patil also quit the water intake and refused to administer saline to him until the government announced and implements reservation to Marathas across the state.
Taking a hard stand since Saturday, Jarange Patil even refused to get his health checked by the government doctors since Sunday evening and had said that the indefinite fast which he started on August 19 will continue till Marathas in Maharashtra get Kunbi certificates under the OBC category.
Asked by media persons about his declining health condition and the necessity for intravenous fluids, Jarange dismissed the need of being administered saline and instead said that what he needs is the “saline of Maratha reservation” to be administered, underscoring the urgency of the issue.
He said the Maratha community has waited for 70 years and it cannot afford to wait any longer for justice.
An all-party meeting has been called in Mumbai on Monday to discuss the quota issue, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Sunday.
While speaking about the meeting and stand taken by all the political parties, Patil said the whole community is keeping a close eye on the stand and actions of the opposition and ruling side and said that “the political parties should take a clear stand on the issue. No party is enemy or friends for us. Our only demand is the reservation. We want to know who (which party) is supporting our cause,” Patil said.
